That’s right, some eggs have finally hatched and we currently have 3 boxes with chicks. Here’s the really fascinating part: all three boxes took 18+ days of incubation in order to hatch. We’ll wait until we have a larger sample size to see if these are outliers or the norm. In other news, we’ll be attempting to catch our first male today. They may prove difficult but we’re stocking up on chicken feathers just in case.
Fifteen boxes located adjacent to the Visitor Center nearer to the southern end of the park have greater than 50% occupancy. The site is large and seems capable of supporting many more boxes in the future.
Weather continues to get drier, allowing us more time in the field.
