I’m all of a sudden sitting in my office back in Ithaca and wondering what just happened over the past four months. Simply put, more than I ever could have hoped for. With the priceless help of Marisol, together we laid a sturdy foundation for the next three years of work with the Golden Swallow. But just because we aren’t in the Dominican Republic right now, that doesn’t mean we’re not spending our days developing more collaboration and planning for a busy winter ahead when we plan to build 300 nest boxes and further expand our work into the Sierra de Bahoruco mountain range. There is much to do!
Over the next few weeks we will be preparing a final report that will immediately be made public. The science and conservation we want to develop in the DR needs to be transparent, and moreso than anything, it needs to continue being a collaboration of absolutely everyone interested in the future of this species and its habitat.
The kindness we found in the DR was overwhelming. In every corner of the island we were welcomed with smiles and information, as well as ambition to help us in the future. We can’t thank all of you enough and we promise we’ll be seeing each other again very soon.
Stay well and keep your eyes on this website as we’ll be continuing to add to it as well as improve it over the coming months.
Justin and Marisol
