Another two days of exploration and observation have awarded us with much more information on the current situation with the bauxite mine population of Golden Swallows in Acetillar.
I’m excited to say that we have a pair of swallows actively building a nest in one of our new free standing, pole-mounted boxes. What I thought was a false attempt from late last summer turned out to be a new nest from this year. We can only hope that the pair is successful in fledging young this year that will return and continue using the nearby, available nest-boxes.
In total, I was able to locate six nesting pairs of GOSW in the bauxite mines and one pair of swallows that may be nesting near the picnic area at the crossroads. I was also able to record a solid amount of audio as well as video of the nesting pairs.
